A barcode label is akin to a functioning piece of equipment. It is not just a pretty picture. If you tried printing the labels yourself, you would want to have barcode capable software, high-quality laser, thermal, or offset printers, proper mid-gloss label stock, and a barcode scanner/verifier at minimum. Most local print shops are experts at copying documents or printing eye-catching flyers and professional-looking business cards. However, they generally have little or no experience with the unique requirements of barcode label printing or even have the equipment necessary to properly test the functionality of the finished barcode product.
